About / Experience

Experience & projects.

Three projects that together cover the complete technology stack: a deployed analytics system, forecasting research with an interactive dashboard, and the hardware that supports both.

01 / Project

Derwent Bridge — Advanced Power Analytics

A six-module web system for a remote Tasmanian site, covering real-time data acquisition through to optimal microgrid design and operating end to end.

  • Live irradiance and wind acquisition for the site, converted to PV and wind output and written to a time-series store one row per minute, with a simulator substituting for the feed if it becomes unavailable
  • Short-term forecasting by a recurrent network trained in seconds on the last week of hourly data and rolled forward a day ahead, for PV, wind and demand
  • Long-term outlook from five years of daily climate history fitted with trend and harmonic regression, producing a two-year forecast aggregated to seasons
  • Cost–benefit analysis — LCOE, NPV, payback and CO₂ for the PV and wind plants
  • Ten-year design comparison of hybrid-grid, fully renewable and grid-only options

02 / Research

Day-ahead solar generation forecasting

An in-house deep-learning model for day-ahead solar generation forecasting, evaluated across recurrent and transformer architectures — with an interactive analytical dashboard that replays every prediction against measured output. Method details will be shared once the research is published.

  • Our model evaluated against baseline and benchmark variants of LSTM, GRU and Transformer models
  • Three co-located solar plants and a weather station, with a full data-engineering pipeline from raw records to model-ready series
  • An interactive analytical dashboard that steps through a 144-hour test horizon hour by hour, showing prediction against actual and cumulative MAE, RMSE and R² as they evolve
  • Every reported figure traceable to the notebook that produced it

03 / Hardware

PCB & embedded design

The instrumentation layer. Where the measurements a model requires are not available on site, we design the hardware that provides them.

  • Schematic capture, PCB layout and design for manufacture and assembly
  • Power and signal integrity, protection and isolation for measurement in electrically noisy plant
  • Microcontroller firmware, sensor integration and telemetry
  • Secure MQTT-over-TLS uplink, with local control of relays, PLCs, inverters and battery management systems
  • Edge processing to maintain device operation during communication outages
